Activities and Tours

Fishing

Fishing is available off the reef directly in front of the resort. The reef is accessible by kayak or canoe from the beach at mid to high tide. You will need to bring reef shoes and your own fishing gear and we ask that you are mindful of our coral inside the lagoon when paddling to the reef. Bring your catch to our kitchen for a fresh sashimi platter.

Village Walks

Morning and afternoon village walking tours are conducted by our staff through Safotu, our neighboring village. This is a wonderful way to gain some insight into village life in Savaii and to meet the local people. Available every day except Sundays.

Mt Matavanu Crater

Staff can arrange walks to Mt Matavanu a volcanic crater located behind the Resort which erupted in 1905 and is responsible for the massive lava field surrounding the Itu-o-tane District and the virgin’s grave at Saleaula. Tours can be arranged at Reception.

Dwarfs Cave

Dwarfs cave exists in the lava tubes created by volcanic activity and are the basis of local legends in the district. Tours can be arranged at Reception.

Swimming with the turtles

Approximately 3km from the Resort at a cost or guest can make their own way to the site at Satolepai which is appropriately sign posted.

Fishing tours

Half or full day fishing tours can be arranged through the resort that are provided through nearby operators. The fishing vessels are well equipped for deep sea fishing. Species available include marlin, masi masi, yellowfin & skip jack tuna, sailfish, giant trevally and many more. Please inquire at reception for costs.

Savaii tours

The full day island tour is $300WST for 2 people. The sites include swimming with the turtles, lava fields with virgins grave and church, local market, afua'au waterfall, taga blow holes, lovers leap, eye of the devil spring, peapea cave, falealupo canopy walk, moso's footprint and the house of rock. Tours depart at 9:30am and return at approximately 6:30pm with a stop in Salelologa for lunch. The half island tour is $230WST for 2 people including swimming with the turtles, lava fields with virgins grave and church, local market, afua'au waterfall, and taga blow holes. Departs from reception at 9:30am every day except Sundays. Prices do not include entrance fees which are payable directly to each site.

Diving and Snorkelling

Snorkelling equipment is available free of charge for our guests and the lagoon right off our beach offers some great snorkelling. For those who want to venture a little further off shore, Dive Savaii is a PADI certified dive centre located within 5 minutes drive from the hotel. Daily snorkelling tours and scuba diving is available as well as a range of dive courses from beginner to instructor.

Kayaks and Pao Pao

We have a collection of kayaks available for guest use as well as a traditional Samoan outrigger canoe (known as a pao pao). These are available free of charge and can be taken and returned to our main beach. High tide is the best time for kayaking due to clearance above our coral reef and remember to always keep your eye out for turtles which our guests spot on a regular basis.

Other Facilities

The Tusitala Restaurant Bistro Bar offers a pool table and sky television for those important rugby matches you simply cannot miss and we also have a table tennis table for use inside our main fale on the inland side of the property. Our staff have regular afternoon volleyball games on the beach bar lawn which you are welcome to join in and for those quiet nights we offer nightly big screen movies in our main fale.
